"Just So You Know (J.S.Y.K.) is a beautiful break-up song, disguised as a love song. It describes the story of falling in love, the sometimes turbulent roller coaster of emotions that come with a relationship and those silent frustrations that can eventually culminate into words left unspoken, after an unforeseen break up. In short, it’s all the thoughts that you never got to verbalize that run through your mind after ending a relationship.
I, just as many other people, became very vulnerable after a break up. However, instead of drowning my sorrows in regret, I decided to use my most therapeutic and creative outlet... music. When writing this song, I treated it as if it were a letter to my ex, written from the heart and put to music. While venting my frustrations with a friend (Dutch artist, Ina Bravo), I came up with a piano line that just happened to flawlessly fit with the melody I had for the song. Thus, “Just So You Know (J.S.Y.K.)” was born. Although I've written a few ballads as a song-writer, this one resonated differently, because of the transparency about the fragile emotions while writing it. Although I was a little nervous about putting myself out there, and being so vulnerable... it was the best way for me to genuinely connect with my listeners. When releasing a new single, I definitely feel excited, because I pride myself on taking the time to refine my music, until I am completely satisfied with my creation. I love receiving feedback from my listeners to see if they truly understand the intended message. I’m very interested in people's reaction to an LGBTQ+ love / break-up song." - Dev!n
lyrics
Drunk off those city lights
But with you I feel sober
Can’t tell if it’s day or night
When you pull me closer
And I, never felt so alive
Til the day you arrived
Into my life
And just so you know
You brought out all the best in me
And Just so you know
There’s no other place I’d rather be
And just so you know, every part of you was what I loved the most
Just so u know, no
But you’ll never know
You’ll never know
Don’t speak, don’t say a thing
You’re not the man I thought that you would be
You turned all my happiness to misery
When you used me, you confused me
You took the love I had for you and abused me
Now I can’t take it anymore
Just so you know
I would have stopped the world for you
And just so you know
There’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
And just so you know, the part that hurts the most was how you left so cold
Just so u know, no
But you’ll never know
You’ll never know
My mind is working over time
Trying to understand the reason why
You would lie to me, after everything I’ve done (Ohh)
I’ve given up on love with you
This happy ending’s not for me and you
So I guess this is goodbye
And just so you know
Just so you know (x3)
But you’ll never know
